    Steve Winwood appears on the new album 'Men and Angels Say' from two-time Grammy winner Ashley Cleveland. The track "I Need Thee Every Hour" features a duet vocal and organ performance from Winwood. A fellow lover of hymns, Winwood accepted Ashley's invitation to appear on the album after the two led worship together at their Nashville church.

    With his handsome boxer's face and a singing voice of bruised soulfulness, Jim Capaldi might have achieved the degree of fame that fell upon his friend Steve Winwood. Instead, Capaldi, who has died of cancer aged 60, will remain best known as the drummer with Traffic, the group he and Winwood formed in 1967 with two other West Midlands musicians, the guitarist and songwriter Dave Mason and the saxophonist and flautist Chris Wood.

    Jim Capaldi Passes Away

     

    Traffic bandmate and longtime friend Jim Capaldi passed away this morning at 2 a.m.

    Capaldi was 60 years old.

    Of the passing of Capaldi, Steve said, "This is a loss to me of a lifelong dear friend and to the world of a great poet, songwriter, and musician. I am proud to have been his writing partner on so many songs. Our sympathy is with his wife, Aninha, and his family at this time."
