Roll with It (Winwood, Jennings)
When life is too much, roll with it, baby Don't stop and lose your touch, oh no, baby Hard times knocking on your door, I'll tell them you ain't there no more Get on through it, roll with it, baby Luck'll come and then slip away, you've gotta move, bring it back to stay You just roll with it, baby, come on and just roll with it, baby You and me, roll with it, baby, hang on and just roll with it, baby The way that you love is good as money I swear by stars above, sweet as honey People think you're down and out, you show them what it's all about You can make it, roll with it, baby When this world turns its back on you, hang in and do that sweet thing you do You just roll with it, baby, you just roll with it, baby Come on and just roll with it, baby, you and me, just roll with it, baby Now there'll be a day you'll get there, baby, you'll hear the music play, you'll dance, baby You'll leave bad times way behind, nothing but good times on your mind You can do it, roll with it, baby Then you'll see life will be so nice, it's just a step up to paradise You just roll with it, baby, you just roll with it, baby You and me, just roll with it, baby, Come on and just roll with it, baby |

Holding On (Winwood, Jennings)
Used to live in the danger zone, any day it could get too rough Now I'm glad I kept holding on, now I'm glad I had soul enough You turned night into day and showed me how my soul could sing You took my hurt away and showed me love conquers anything When two hearts both feel the same, there's a way to beat the game Holding on, now I'm standing in the light Holding on, and this time I've got it right Holding on, every day and every night Holding on. Fall asleep in your lover's arms and it's just like it ought to be Just be thankful she keeps you warm in a world where there's nothing free Give her love every day and pay attention when she dreams And she'll be good to you 'cause sometimes love is just what it seems When two hearts both feel the same, there's a way to beat the game See the mountain water running down into streams How it holds on forever, we'll be holding on forever People soul-searching all night long for a reason to help them live And I do hope they hear this song, get through take and you get to give It can be in a smile, it can be there in a touch It warms the world awhile, when it's love it can't be too much |

The Morning Side (Winwood, Jennings)
You meet every kind of person moving toward the morning side You see the good and the bad, the eyes are sad You play every midnight gambler before you see the light On the morning side, the morning side You feel every heat and passion moving towards the morning side To earn one more second chance, you learn the dance When you finally climb the mountain, you see the other side It's the morning side, the morning side Now my life has changed and now my eyes can see Now I'm living on the morning side Now I'm letting all the sunlight into me Now I'm free And I know I'll never pass that way again That dark journey to the morning side On the morning side I feel my life begin Let's begin |

Put on Your Dancing Shoes (Winwood, Jennings)
So much going on out there, leaves us hanging in the air And it's all that we can do to face each day and see it though Life's a dance, put on your dancing shoes, take a chance You can't shut your eyes to pain, faces crying in the rain You can't keep it all inside, you need some way to let it ride Life's a dance, put on your dancing shoes, take a chance When you're all over, when you know you've done all that you can do Put on your dancing shoes, it'll see you through Voices shouting in the street, life lived to a ragged beat Someone's world is tumbling down, and who's the saint and where's the clown? Life's a dance, put on your dancing shoes, take a chance When you're all over, when you know you've done all that you can do Put on your dancing shoes, it'll see you through When time is flying, when you know there's no end to these modern blues Put on your dancing shoes, it'll see you through |

Don't You Know What the Night Can Do? (Winwood, Jennings)
Hear the night music playing? Don't you know what it's saying? We should feel it together forever Feel the beat and just hold on to the sweet midnight flowing Feel the music inside you, I'll be there too Now's the time that our dreams are finally coming true Feels so good we're crying Now's the time when it's down to me and you Spread these wings - we'll be flying Don't you know what the night can do? Don't you know when it's touching you? Don't you know what the night can do? Time to show all your feeling, all the night is revealing Let the rhythm enfold you, let me hold you And we turn into music, now we never will lose it When the rhythm and night ride, no heart can hide There are times that never ever come again, memories there for making When the night comes, we better let it in, all this love for the taking Don't you know what the night can do? Don't you know when it's touching you? Won't you help me to let it through? Don't you know what the night can do? |

Hearts on Fire (Winwood, Jim Capaldi)
Night was falling and my chances were low Nothing was happening, I was ready to go Then I saw her walking through that door And I knew right then I had to get me some more Moved up close, up next to the bar There she sat, lookin' like a movie star Went up and asked her, 'Do you mind if I sit?' She said, 'No, but if you see a chance, you'd better take it.' Just the two of us sat talking together The music and people all drifting away Hearts on fire, burning with love We were written in the stars above Take us higher to the things that we know There's no other place we can go Told her everything that happened to me A thousand limousines and the women for free She said, 'That's when these words'll ring true - You ain't nobody 'till somebody loves you.' Love came to me the minute I saw her I wanted to make her part of my life Just the two of us sat talking together I wanted to make her part of my life |

One More Morning (Winwood, Jennings)
In the sky, light is coming, so glad we all have this day We all want one more morning just to know the night won't stay Lift my eyes to the dawning to see the life start again Just to see one more morning, just to feel it all begin Just to have this day and life starting all over, for all it may bring A blessing on everything and one more song I can sing One more day, one more memory, one more link in the chain We all want one more morning just to feel it all again Just to have this day and life starting all over, for all it may bring A blessing on everything and one more song I can sing In the arms we were born in, in the arms that will take us home We all want one more morning, then we'll take the night to come |

Shining Song (Winwood, Jennings)
Baby's eyes - feel them looking at me Realize what I would have her see Realize how dark this world can be That's why I better keep shining, shining, keep shining right down the line Love's a light - it keeps leading us on When it's right, it'll shine till we're gone keep it bright out there in the unknown You know we better keep shining, shining, keep shining right down the line Here's my shining song, I hope you can see it Here's my shining song, from the heart Here's my shining song, and I know you need it If we keep shining on, we'll never shine alone Love the night, 'cause that's when I hold you Feel the might of all the things we do Oh, the sight when we're both coming through I love you 'cause you keep shining, shining Keep shining right down the line So shine - just show the world how bright the world can be Let it shine - so every heart can see Shining star - lead us on through our lives You're so far, but your light still arrives Shining star, shine for all who still cry It helps to know you're still shining, shining You're shining right down the line |

Non-album tracks: “Always” (instrumental), “In the Light of Day” (instrumental version). "Always" was the b-side to "One and Only Man", while the instrumental version of "In the Light of Day" was the b-side to "I Will Be Here". The instrumental version, an edit of the album version's backing track, runs for about 6 minutes and contains some improvisational work at the end which is not on the album version. In 1990, cassette singles were popular, and both of this album's singles were released in cassette single format. There were also CD singles with these b-sides.
These non-album tracks are notable because Steve Winwood rarely produced non-album songs.
Roll with It is Steve Winwood’s fifth solo album. It topped the album charts in the United States, and has sold over three million copies. The single "Roll with It" topped the pop singles and the album rock singles charts, while "Don't You Know What the Night Can Do?", which reached #6 on the U.S. Pop chart, and #1 on the Album Rock chart, and "Holding On", which reached #11 on the U.S. Pop Chart, and #2 on the Album Rock chart, were also big hits. "Hearts on Fire" and "Put on Your Dancing Shoes" also saw radio airplay.
